My creative approach as a designer is firmly rooted in my art history and dance background. My specialty recently has been costuming for dance (though I enjoy all areas of theatre!). I deeply enjoy the abstract and expressive nature of dance costuming as well as finding the natural movement of costumes. I also find historical design particularly interesting due to the need to strike a balance between historical accuracy, theatricality, and practicality, all while appealing to the modern audience's taste. I have a strong background in studio art that I pull from heavily in my design process.
.
I am a masters graduate of the University of Maryland. I graduated from Lawrence University in 2018, majoring in costume design with a minor in art history. I have been designing costumes and characters for as long as I can remember, though I did not start considering theater as a career until sophomore year of college. Before my switch to theater, I was majoring in physics. I still have a strong passion for the sciences that I continue to use for inspiration. While at the University of Maryland, I discovered a passion for puppetry I have been avidly pursuing ever since.
.
What I want from my career is to work in all fields of costuming and to always stay fresh. I would like to eventually develop a focus in opera and ballet. My long term goal is to continue developing my Epic of Gilgamesh puppets into a feature length film. I have an ambitious nature, and I can't wait to see how far I can push myself as a designer.
